Oh Yeah so started getting subscribers after my Anime/Cosplay related posts. I just want to clarify that this blog is primarily NOT about anime/cosplay. It’s a personal blog so it’s mostly about life, ranting, and boring mundane stuff. I just don’t want to get anybody’s expectations up when they read about make-up reviews or something. @.@
Bloodmoon Akali work in progress (DONE)

Work in progress pictures

So I threw this together into a collage slash tutorial to show the “progress” pictures. I feel like making the costume is one of the most enjoyable parts of cosplay and details tend to go unnoticed so I wanted to share this.
Parts I like the most: My mask! My pride and joy and baby. It’s VERY sturdy thanks to paper pulp.
Parts I hate the most: My weapon. Not smooth like I wanted to and I had to keep fixing stuff with caulking. And probably the wig… it just felt so stiff on my head!
Parts that killed me: Painting the fabric. Augh… horribad. Don’t want to go into it.
Anime North 2012
Had a lot of fun. I think my bloodmoon akali costume turned out well! JN’s Sona costume was awesome as well. She was the only Sona too~ AH and IM’s costumes were also very nice
now it’s just back to reality…where everyone/thing seems so mundane. You can’t look out the window to see cars smoking, or spot batman from your hotel room, or go to bed at 3am to still feel the vibration (literally) of the J-rave across the street. Boo!

Jen and I at the League of Legends photoshoot. I was late, because I wanted to eat instant noodles. (which also made me forget to touch up my makeup lol). Jen was late because she was ALSO eating instant noodles with the added bonus of lugging a 50lb harp with her.

A photo I yoinked off someone on facebook. I like how the patterns on my costume showed up here! A lot of photos I found, it either didn’t show up or people messed with the saturation levels so much that the patterns were gone.
Another awesome photo here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/allankh/7283978316/in/photostream/

Car smoking up outside of Doubletree Hotel. The firefighters came and put it out with water… at which we noticed brown fluid was coming out of the car. We were like OSHIT is that blood!??! But then we realized it was probably fuel/engine fluid or whatever. We saw this whole thing right outside our hotel window!
Someone wanted to buy JN’s harp! That’s how good it was.
And I heard from a few people while walking that I was the best BM akali of the convention. That made me very very happy! All the little details I spent on my costume paid off. I was a little disappointed I was late for the photoshoot though so I wasn’t in as many group pictures but that’s alright.
Went to the LoL tournament on Sunday which was less exciting than it sounds. Last minute we changed our mind and decided not to enter, since we were missing a key player from our ideal team (RL) but we went to watch anyways. First of all…there were too many idiots behind us that talked about the game like they had a clue what was going on. SECOND…there were just too many people standing up, blocking the view of the projector. There was this asian guy standing in front of me for the LONGEST TIME…and when he FINALLY got a clue to look around him, we made eye contact. I gave him a really ticked off look and…he ducked down. LOL I didn’t even mean to do that…my face was just ticked off the whole time and he happened to see it.
Here are some of the goods I picked up at AN. Not much really but I really like the totoro keychain! It’s now on my fossil bag. Also picked up a little figurine thing from one of my favourite animes of all time, “To aru Kagaku no Railgun”. This little guy you see here is Saten Ruiko. The yellow macaron eraser is a gift from JC! <3
Firmoo glasses
So few weeks ago Firmoo was having a free glasses giveaway in exchange for a review. Sounds like a good deal so I took up the offer! I received them awhile ago but exams kept me so busy but now I finally have the time to wear them for a few days to give an honest opinion of how they are.
I guess my verdict is that: not bad. Actually, more than not bad – pretty good considering I don’t really have much complaints at all (just the fact there there is a glare/reflection when i take pictures but I can live with that). The build was ok – although it’s hard to make a judgement on plastic frames (which I like – it hides my eye bags haha). The lens itself was not bad, although I wished it had some AR (anti-reflective) coating and such. Since this is free, I didn’t choose these options but.. quite important, for photos and such.
It also came with a metal tool for adjusting the screws… nice to have (actually standard to have for most online optical stores now), a case, a glasses bag, and a wiping cloth.
First of all, the prescription is right! I know that’s trivial but it is almost the first thing you notice when you put on the glasses – not if it looks nice on your face or not, but whether or not you can SEE through them. Second is that – it fits on my face. GOOD.
ASIDE: For those ordering online, please please please get your pupillary distance (a.k.a. PD) right. I know it’s such a no brainer but – what’s with the talk nowadays how you can measure them yourself with a mirror and a ruler? UM. I don’t know if people make this up trying to encourage online buying but consumers should at least get the facts. YES – you can measure your own PD. HOW DO YOU KNOW if it’s correct? You don’t until you get them and whether or not it fits on your face/you can see well with them. I have measured PD countless times during the school year so I know the proper way to measure it and even then there are discrepancies. And I’m the one in the professional program here… so the sites now are telling total amateurs to do this. (Most will go, so what? Yeah, +/-2mm isn’t going to make much of a difference but it all boils down to, how half ass are your standards?) Sometimes I wonder if people just want the business and that’s it… (I didn’t check out what Firmoo has to say about PD but I know clearlycontacts just tell you to measure it yourself!! Such bullcrap.) Note: I say this because measuring PD just with a ruler and your eye depends on your OWN face – like if the person measuring it for you has a big PD themselves, when they move their eyes to look at the ruler, a larger measurement is reflected from that. It’s something to do with your eyes themselves, binocular vision, etc.) … why am I even talking about this? Because well – My friend measured my PD before and it was larger than it should be and when CC gave me the glasses, it was loose. Then I started optometry and learned another way to do it and NOW it came out correct – as in the glasses don’t fall off my face at least… Also for technical reasons how you want your eyes to be centered at the optical axis of your glasses and if your PD is off – you can still SEE obviously but off is off and your eye may not get the full correction that you could have gotten. (Again, most people don’t care or notice this. Augh now i’m just going on a raging rant: it’s almost scary how people view them as a fashion accessory and forget that this is still a medical aid and if they don’t notice the difference then that automatically means that there is no difference. I mean yeah if I took out one of your kidneys you’ll probably be ok too… anyway back on topic.)
Moving on. Does it tire my face when i wear them for long periods of time. Nope! This doesn’t have a nose rest but surprisingly it doesn’t really clamp too much on my nose. I mean …yes it leaves marks on my nose but it’s not unbearably uncomfortable, as some glasses can be.
Surprisingly, I am not too picky when it comes to my glasses so far – it just has to fit and I have to see clear with them. There are other categories where I can judge glasses with – but I don’t have tools to check if it passes quality control tests or durability or anything like but from what I see and experience overall, they’re not bad. I mean I even look pretty good in them! What a bonus
ordering online is so hit or miss sometimes – they look AWESOME in the picture…when they’re not on my face. Suddenly, on my face it looks bad. This time, I picked something safe and it turned out pretty good on my face shape!
Next time…I would like to test out their sunglasses… should be alright as well hopefully!
Case in point: Glasses are cheap, and sometimes free. If they are so inexpensive/free, at least get off your cheap ass and add on things that will help you; AR coatings, anti-UV etc. So many online opticals advertise glasses as a fashion statement – and rightfully so since people can afford to have pairs to match the days of the week plus their outfit and oh I don’t know, their socks or something. I would never ever order contact lenses online though, but I believe glasses are ok. You just got to make sure your numbers are right (and learn to live with regret if they don’t come out right since you dont’ get to try them beforehand but people nowadays seem to have money to piss away anyway despite the economy so you can just get another pair or return them if you don’t mind the hassle). Point: get as many pairs as you want but you only have one set of eyes.
